The Deep
shark-sil-2Located in Hull, just an hour’s drive from York is The Deep, the world’s only submarium. One of the most dramatic aquariums in the world, The Deep is an award winning family attraction and to date has welcomed over two million visitors from all over the world.

The main attraction is a ten metre deep pool containing 2.5 million litres of water, each afternoon a show dive is performed where the dive team feeds the sharks and rays by hand. The Deep also contains Europe’s deepest viewing tunnel and a spectacular glass lift ride through the 10m tank. See also The Twlilight Zone which tells the story of the ocean depths between 200 and 1000m deep- a place of endless night and home to alien and weird life forms including Giant Japanese Spider crabs, Giant Pacific octopus, Wolf Eels and Flashlight fish.

Eureka! The UK’s National Children’s Museum
eurekaA place where children play to learn and grown-ups learn to play. Everything at Eureka! has been designed to inspire children to find out about themselves and the world around them through 100s of hands-on exhibits. The museum is based in Halifax, West Yorkshire in the North of England and features over 400 interactive exhibits which inspire children aged 0-11 to learn about themselves and the world around them through imagination, play and discovery.

JORVIK Viking Centre
jorvikGet face-to-face with the Vikings on the very site where archaeologists discovered the remains of the place they once called home. Discover what life was really like over 1000 years ago, meet the Viking residents, see over 800 items uncovered here. Journey through a reconstruction of the actual Viking-Age streets, with sounds and smells!

The houses and shops are laid out in exactly the same pattern as they were in the year AD975, and even the faces of the people you see have been reconstructed from Viking skulls.

Rievaulx Abbey

Whitby Abbey
Founded by St Hilda in 657. The original community was destroyed by the Danes, but was refounded as a Benedictine priory in 1078. The new museum and visitor centre contains excavated finds and replicas.

York Minster Undercroft Treasury & Crypt
york-minsterYork Minster is the chief church of the Church of England, also the seat of the Archbishop of York. The present building is the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, and is the setting for some of the finest 14th and 15th century stained glass windows in existence. Prayer has been offered to God on this site for nearly 1000 years.

The Undercroft and Crypt uncovers the remarkable history of York Minster from its early Norman foundations to the 20th century engineering that supports the central tower. The Undercroft also contains the remains of York´s Roman Legionary fortress, Viking gravestones and historic artefacts from the Minster´s collection.
